aids an growing epidemic

AIDS...one of the scariest diseases around also the most common. The growing epidemic of Acquired immune deficiency syndrome has quickly becomes one of the worlds top deadly diseases. With all this information out there it is simply suicide to go around having unprotected sex of doing anything that might contract the disease. AIDS is largely recognized as a disease of poverty where it is most common in countries pf debt and extreme poverty. For the vast majority of HIV and AIDS sufferers in the suffering countries treatment is not available.

"Among all low- and middle-income countries, HIV prevalence is strongly correlated with falling protein consumption, falling calorie consumption, unequal distribution of national income and, to a lesser extent, labor migration…. Poverty not only creates the biological conditions for greater susceptibility to infectious diseases, it also limits the options for treating disease."— Eileen Stillwaggon, AIDS and the Poverty in Africa, The Nation Magazine, May 3 2001
In 2005 alone there were nearly 4.9 million new HIV infections and 3.2 million of them where in Africa adding to the 25.8 million infected in Africa and the 40 million living around the world.

"Profiting from death— … the AIDS epidemic has brought billions of dollars in profits to the world’s pharmaceutical companies—the newest combination drug therapies can cost up to 20,000 US dollars per person per year. There have been strong calls for companies to cut these prices, and worldwide condemnation of drugs giant Glaxo-Welcome for raising the price of its market leader AZT as well as holding back access to new drugs. Until people’s needs are put before corporate profits, there will be one AIDS epidemic for the rich and another for the poor."
OneWorld Guide to AIDS

I always knew that AIDS was something to be scared of but i had no idea it was this big. People should really acknowledge this crisis and protect themselves and help convince others that it is very real and killing millions every year..don't become 1 in a million!

Wow I knew about AIDS and HIV killing millions of people every year. What I did not know is how pharmaceutical companies take advantage of this and make a huge profit due to the fact that AIDS drugs are EXPENSIVE to say the least. This is sickening. While million of people are dying every year there are companies who take advantage of those who have AIDS or HIV and take their money.

There is nothing that pisses me off more than watching companies take advantage of someone's condition.

I most defintely agree. POEPLE do not like undersatnd how great of a problem this is. The worse part of the reality of this disease is that companies are actually taking advantage of this horrible pandemic! I think that is unethical and besides all it shows where our world is coming to in a future!

I was already aware that AIDS and HIV are huge contributors to the death rate, and I knew that it really is a serious issue. I think it's really sad that so many people actually contract it so oftenly and so rapidly. I think what makes it worse for me is that if a mother gets AIDS/HIV, and she gets pregnant (by mistake or on purpose) her baby has increased chances of having it too. It's so sad to think of a newborn with a disease that not even an adult can handle. I also didn't know that pharmaceutical companies took advantage of the increasing rate of AIDS/HIV positive people. That should really be stopped.

Yea that AIDS is nothing to mess with. I heard Jamie Foxx say one time that somewhere in Africa they got instand AIDS!! You dont even get HIV first it just goes straight to AIDS! but yea it ridiculous how pharmaceutical companies are concerned about that almighty dollar that others in need. i bet if i was themselve or someone to loved it would be a much different scenario. Free vaccines for all of them! bastards.

I think the saddest part of this disease is to see all the innocent children that are infected with AIDS. It was their parents fault and lack of responsability that got them infected in the first place. We should be more concious for the actions that we take in our lives. Most of the times it doesn't affect only us. AIDS is not a disease to take slightly we should take the necesary precautions to prevent it from spreading out. Most importantly we should start thinking what to do to lower the statistics of childrem infected with the virus.
